Hot for Houndstooth Nails

"Introducing the hottest invention in nail color. Sally Hansen Salon Nail Effects Real Nail Polish strips creates an instant fashion manicure you can't get from a bottle. Real nail polish with no dry time and lasts up to ten days. Get a salon effect anytime, any place. Designs include neon, metallic and high-shine patterns and will cost just under ten dollars for a set containing sixteen strips, a cuticle stick and a mini file-buffer."

Last week was my birthday week so I decided to treat myself to a set of these Sally Hansen nail effects. At $8.50 a pop my inner skeptic said no, but my love for Houndstooth said YES! I have recorded a video of my initial reaction and application which I will attach below. Also you will see pictures of the nails throughout the week.
Day two: My memory card decided to eat my initial pictures but here we have a picture of day two. I thought it was super easy to put these on and by day two I was surprised there was no chipping. I expected the strips to wear down on the edges of my nails but I didn't notice anything.
Day four: Manicure is still going strong. I have noticed tiny chips on the thumb nail and slight peeling around the cuticle of my middle and ring fingers. I'm impressed considering I have been pretty tough on my hands the past few days (ie. dyed my hair, drawing, typing, washing dishes etc.)
Day seven: Day seven and my nails look like day four. Day Nine: I am super happy that I tried these because they have staying power. I was worried that these babies would peel off by day three, but much to my surprise these strips delivered on their promise. Overall I would definitely recommend them. I do think they are a bit pricey however they would look amazing for a special occasion (prom, date, valentine's day etc.)

  5. I'm kind of surprised it took companies so long to get on the "minx" train. I've had Minx done at a Salon, the OPI ones from Sephora (I believe 18 nail stickers in a pack for $15), and I just bought nail fraud ones (haven't used them yet 20 in a pack for $10 @ Ulta). I'll definitely have to pick some of these up. Glad these have a more accurate staying length on them. I've known folks to be turned off by the Sephora ones saying they only stay on for a day or two when I've had them last well over a week (but some of the patterns wear down easier than others).

I use tips I learned from having salon Minx done on these other versions. I found a nail glue at Sallys that has a brush applicator and ran it on the tips. I also heat the adhesive with a hair dryer before applying. Minx is cured under a really hot light bulb which makes it tackier to stick. They will also tell you if you notice lifting on the tips to run a hair dryer over them and push them back down.

  6. @Taylor - thanks for all the added tips! The video tutorial, plus your info makes me confident that I can use these on myself successfully and what to do if there's a problem.

  8. This would be great for my birthday! I want to do something fun, but don't have the funds for gel nails at the moment. I will definitely have to check out my local wal-mart for these!

BTW, that top coat really is the best! :D

  10. Follow up as to nail fraud... they're terrible! I don't know if its the print I got but I just removed them after maybe 4 hours (of sitting at the house). They part VERY easily. At one point I used my nail to push an edge down and it cut through the product. They're more like really sticky stickers vs. A pliable, thicker nail cover. Hopefully these sally hansen ones last longer.

  15. I found your videos on youtube. I love the eye make that you do! I just bought the Flirt limited edition set that I saw you use for the smoky eyes video. I was wondering if you could do more makeup videos using the Flirt eye shadow set? I've tried to use it to copy other looks you have done and it doesn't work out that well.
    =)
